France has taken a huge step for animals. Barbara Pompili, France's Minister of Ecological Transition, has announced a gradual ban on using wild animals for traveling circuses, marine parks, and mink farms. Marine parks are also prohibited from breeding and bringing in new dolphins and orcas, effective immediately.
“It is time to open a new era in our relationship with these animals,” says Pompili.
Within the next five years, the new measures will bring an end to mink farming, a cruel and outdated practice in which animals are raised for their fur.
The ban unfortunately does not apply to wild animals in zoos, but represents an important step in the right direction for animal welfare.
