Healthy & Vegan Dog Treats You’ll Be Proud to Serve Your Furry Friend

Vegan Dog Treats

Here at v-dog, we know it’s irresistible when our dogs squeal with joy and perk their ears at just the sound of “treat” - or a word that rhymes with it. Plus, treats are effective training tools and sweet ways to show affection to our pets (pun intended). But it’s also important to note that there can definitely be too much of a good thing. In fact, some studies show that more than 50 percent of dogs are overweight or obese, and a big culprit in this statistic is - you guessed it - too many treats.

According to Cummings Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts University, many treats are loaded with potentially harmful bacteria, unnecessary calories, and other ingredients that can upset your dog’s stomach. Luckily, there is no shortage of ways to treat your dogs with nourishing dog snacks that are made with their health in mind.

From homemade recipes with superfoods to our v-dog wiggle biscuits - we’re sharing wholesome and healthy options you can be proud to serve your dog. See below for dog treats and snacks for easy nourishment on the go!

Are dog treats good for dogs?

As mentioned above, it’s important to serve treats in moderation. They’re called treats for a reason!  There’s a common “10 percent rule” that essentially means treats shouldn’t make up more than 10 percent of your dog’s diet. However, we know this number can be a bit fuzzy. We suggest chatting with your veterinarian to hear their specific recommendation for how many treats your dog should consume. Your dog’s age, size, breed, and individual issues will play a role in this number.
