According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, feeding your pet raw meat could mean exposing them (and the rest of your family) to potentially harmful pathogens like Salmonella, E. coli, and Campylobacter. Unsurprisingly, these foods are often recalled for contamination reasons.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is currently notifying consumers of a recall of raw turkey pet food from Woody’s Pet Food Deli due to Salmonella contamination. Product samples tested positive for Salmonella, and a human case of Salmonella was even linked to the pet food.
The recalled product, “Woody’s Pet Food Deli Raw Free Range Turkey," was sold at Woody’s Pet Food Deli locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Woodbury.
When pets eat or come into contact with Salmonella-containing foods, they can spread the bacteria from their mouths, saliva, fur, and feces -- even before showing signs of illness. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting.
