Meet the 37 (and counting!) rescued animals of Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary, an organization dedicated to saving lives and providing a loving home to animals in need. Susan, who founded Little Buckets in 2018, shares her story with v-dog.
It all started when Susan saved a baby calf, named Bucket, for her bucket list. "I moved a farm full of animals to a new state in order to start an animal rescue," she says. "Our sanctuary, now a nonprofit 501(c)(3), is the home for cows, goats, horses, donkeys, pigs, dogs, and cats. We strive to give as many animals as possible the safe and loving home they all so deserve."
Bucket the rescue cow
"In 2017, I decided to make a Bucket List. And on that list was going to an auction to save a life," says Susan. "I knew it was going to be a really hard thing to do because of what I was going to see and because I couldn't save them all." She bid on a tiny day-old calf, got him for $10, and named him Bucket.
"He has been the most amazing animal, friend, teacher, advocate, and so much more. Once I got Bucket, I knew I had to take the chance and go bigger so I could save more Buckets." And so began Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary.
Colton the animal whisperer
One of Susan's rescues is a St Bernard/ Boxer mix named Colton, who has been nicknamed the animal whisperer. "She welcomes all the new rescues with her love and companionship," says Susan. "She became best friends with Bucket at just a few days old and they still romp around the field together. Colton also loves the goats, horses, and Olive, our rescued donkey. She is so incredibly sweet and gentle with them all. She always has her guard up looking after the farm. She is one amazing dog. Colton started eating v-dog food in July 2017 and her vet has been so impressed with her health being on her vegan diet."
Big thanks to Susan for all the incredible work that she does to provide a loving home to animals of all shapes and sizes. To learn more about Little Buckets, check them out on Facebook and Instagram @littlebucketsfarmsanctuary.
