October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month!
Contrary to popular belief Pit Bulls are not one specific breed but rather many breeds all placed into one category. These breeds are American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and occasionally the American Bulldog. Throughout the years the media and irresponsible humans have created a completely unfair stereotype of bully breeds in general. At the end of the day it is very important to keep in mind that A DOG IS A DOG… and no dog is born inherently aggressive and dangerous simply because of their breed. Just like humans, if given love, boundaries, attention and socialization a dog is set up for success! If ignored, abused and mistreated any breed of dog will reflect the treatment that they have received. Yes, bully breed dogs are generally large and strong and that’s why it is important to be a responsible dog parent when you share your home with a pup.
At one point in time the Pit Bull became America’s sweetheart. Frequently seen in commercials, company logos, and TV shows. The most famous Pit Bull was Petey, the cute ring-eyed pibble from the Little Rascals. So when did things change.. and why?
The short answer is… people. People began using the loyalty, strength and determination of these dogs to their advantage by using neglect and abuse to manipulate them for profit. It all comes down to this.
The whole team here at v-dog stands behind Pitties and all of the amazing rescue groups and people that help fight the good fight for these beautiful loving dogs.
All we need is love!
